Delhi police solve burglaries

The Delhi Police Department received complaints in reference to vehicle burglaries which resulted in several firearms being stolen on May 25.

Delhi police received one complaint were two individuals attempted to enter a garage but stopped when they saw a surveillance camera. Officers were able to identify the subject in the video surveillance as Kavari L. Jones, 222 W. Hickory Ave., Bastrop. Jones was charged with two counts of burglary, possession of firearms by a convicted felon and trespassing.

Richland included in incentive program

Part of Richland Parish is included in a census tract which is among 150 the U.S. Department of the Treasury has certified as Opportunity Zones, which will feature tax incentives to attract investments to low-income communities in the state. 

The section of Richland Parish included in the program is in the Rayville area, north of I-20 between Girard and Bee Bayou roads.

Part of the federal Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, the Opportunity Zones program will establish low-income communities as tax-advantaged areas for new long-term private investment.

Cemetery to host Memorial Day program

The Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery will host its Memorial Day Program at 11 a.m. May 28. 

Louisiana Department of Veteran’s Affairs Secretary Joey Strickland will be the keynote speaker.

“We will gather to remember America’s sons and daughters who sacrificed everything in the defense of our nation,” Strickland said. “This, however, is not a day for celebration. It is a day for reflection and remembrance. 

Rayville police make arrests at Wal-Mart

The Rayville Police made two arrests at Wal-Mart recently.

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson Jr. said his department received a call at approximately 9:15 p.m. May 10 from Wal-Mart in reference to an employee stealing money.

Upon arrival, Investigator Jerry Davis Sr. made contact with the store manager. The manager stated that Anthony Guin took $40,000 over a period of time from the store. 

Boy Scouts post camp schedule

The Louisiana Purchase Council, Boy Scouts of America has announced its summer camp schedule for  2018.

Boy Scout Camp for  sixth through 12th graders will be held from June 10-16 at Camp T.L. James near Downsville and June 17-23 at Camp Attakapas near Trout.

The program will include the opportunity to work on more than 35 merit badges including canoeing, emergency preparedness, fish and wildlife management, shotgun shooting, small boat sailing, snorkeling, and wilderness survival. Also, youth will have opportunities to swim and use the climbing tower.
