Rayville High School seniors ready to face life after RHS

Rayville High School held its commencement ceremony May 17 in the Rayville Arts Center. 

The commencement program opened with the posting of the colors by the Rayville High School JROTC, and the Pledge of Allegiance led by First Sergeant Calvin Sistrunk.  The 84 graduates then marched down the aisle led by Valedictorian Haleigh Pittman and Salutatorian Katie Trisler.  

Richland jobless rate falls slightly during April

Unemployment in Richland Parish dropped slightly in April according to the latest figures from the Louisiana Works Commission.

That number reflects a decrease to 5.7 percent in April from 6 percent in March. Both are down from the 6.1 percent recorded in April 2017.

This means 470 people were looking for work in Richland Parish in April, down from 499 in March and 506 a year ago.

In all, 7,838 people were working in Richland Parish in April, down from 7,861 in March and up from 7,790 a year ago.

Delhi seeks to flush out issues in water system

The Town of Delhi is asking all water customers to participate in a cross connection survey.

The purpose of the survey is to help determine if any  customers have special plumbing or activities on their premises that could increase the risk of contamination to Delhi’s water system.  

The Town of Delhi has not had any issues and this is a proactive measure to ensure that the water supply is not affected by cross-connection.  

Hamilton seeks post as district judge

Long time practicing attorney and Assistant District Attorney John “Clay” Hamilton is announcing his candidacy for the Fifth Judicial District Court Judgeship.  There are currently two separate District Judge division seats to be filled this year.  Clay intends to qualify for the Division A bench, recently vacated by Judge Terry Doughty.  Judge Doughty was appointed by President Trump and confirmed by the United States Senate to fill the Federal District bench in Monroe, Louisiana.
