Nursing home operator seeks skilled workers

“All of these small towns are gonna die and these people are all going to go to Monroe, to Jackson, to surrounding areas to find employment. If these little towns dry up…Look at Newellton. Newellton used to have a nursing home. What’s in Newellton now? Nothing! That’s what happens to your communities,” expresses Delbert Wilbanks, co-owner of Deerfield Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Delhi.

The seat of Wilbanks’ concern is the lack of Certified Nursing Assistant skilled laborers.

Volunteer fireman charged over fire which injured wife

The Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal has arrested a Delhi man for allegedly setting his home on fire.

Kenneth Fulford, 54, was booked into the Richland Parish Jail April 16 for one count of aggravated arson, one count of attempted second degree murder, aggravated cruelty to animals and one count of aggravated cruelty to persons with infirmities.

In the early morning hours of April 16, the OSFM was contacted to assist in determining the cause and origin of a fire at a home in the 300 block of Antley Road in Delhi.

Rhymes Library preparing for Wreaths event

The national nonprofit Wreaths Across America has announced the Northeast Louisiana Veterans’ Cemetery just south of Rayville has once again joined in the effort to support the mission to Remember, Honor, Teach as an official location for 2018.

This is the third year that Rhymes Memorial Library and the cemetery will participate in this national event. The cemetery will join the more than 1,400 participating locations across the country Dec. 15 to remember the fallen, honor those that are now serving around the world and to teach children that our freedom comes with a cost.

Sheriff’s office, Triad to host Day at the Lake

The annual Day at the Lake for senior citizens will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 4 at Poverty Point Lake in Delhi. 

Transportation will be provided from the Richland Parish Courthouse beginning at 8:30 a.m. 

Parking will be near the front gate. Transportation will be provided to bring participants from the parking area to the event.

The Day at the Lake is free  of charge to seniors citizens age 60 and over.

Fellowship, food, fun and door prizes will be provided.

Meet the State Champs parade, rallies slated

The Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce invites fans to meet the state champion Rayville Hornet basketball team April 12.

The events will kick off with a parade which will begin at 5 p.m. April 12 at First Baptist Church and travel down Foster Street to the RHS gym.

The Meet the State Champs event will begin at 6 p.m. in the gym. Participants will be able to show their spirit at the pep rally. Sponsors will provide free food and drinks and those taking part can get an autographed photo with the team.
