Mary Terry has been elected to three-year term on the board of the Louisiana Press Association. 

Mary L. Terry began her newspaper career as a reporter/photographer for the Teche News in St. Martinville in 1975. 

Two years later, she was promoted to advertising manager and worked in that capacity until 1999 when she retired from the Teche News and moved to north Louisiana with her late husband, Don.

In 2017, voters chose the most experienced candidate for the Second Circuit Court of Appeal and elected Judge Jimbo Stephens to serve on the Second Circuit Court.

The election last year was for the open position created by the retirement of the late Second Circuit Judge Larry Lolley. This division of the Second Circuit includes all of Franklin and Richland parishes, and part of Ouachita, Morehouse and West Carroll parishes. 

Incumbent Judge Stephens will qualify to run for re-election on July 18, 2018, for a full term on the Second Circuit.

Visitors to the Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in a ranger-led demonstration July 7  of crafting prehistoric-styled pottery similar to the pieces which the Native Americans fashioned more than 3,500 years ago. 

The event will begin with the demonstration at 10:30 a.m. Afterward, visitors can try their hand at making their own pottery until noon.

Attendees can try their hand at creating items such as figurines, decorated artistic objects, coiled clay pots, and clay pipes – inspired by those that have been excavated from the site.
