Fruit, vegetable tour showcases operations

As demand grows for locally grown agricultural products, Louisiana fruit and vegetable growers are exploring production and marketing options for expanding their operations.

The North Louisiana Spring Field Tour, sponsored by the Louisiana Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association and the LSU AgCenter, was held May 3. The tour included stops at the Rayville High School hydroponic greenhouses, Curry Farms agritourism attractions in Start and Robertson Produce Inc. wholesale distribution in Monroe.

Accident leaves one child dead

A child is dead after succumbing to injuries he received during a crash May 8 near Bee Bayou.

Shortly after 2:30 p.m. May 8, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 at the Bee Bayou exit.  

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 GMC Yukon, driven by 33-year-old Trina Robinson of Houma, was traveling west on I-20 when she attempted to take the Bee Bayou exit.

In the girls 4x200 meter relay, the Rayville girls team of Aaliyah Harper, Jasmine Reynolds, Ja’lexis Kelly and Edberly Minniweather took third place.

Delhi girls

In the girls 4x100 meter relay, Delhi’s team of A’Shante May, Le’Shenae Stubblefeild, Tiarra Pruitt and Tyja Washington took first place.

Parish teams finish well at state meet

Richland Parish students did well this weekend at the LHSAA All State track and field meet at the Bernie Moore Track on the LSU campus.

In the girls 4x100 meter relay, Delhi’s team of  A’Shante May, Le’Shenae Stubblefeild, Tiarra Pruitt and Tyja Washington took first place.

In the girls 4x200 meter relay, Delhi’s team of A’Shante May, Tyja Washington, Tiarra Pruitt and Le’Shenae Stubblefeild took third place with a time of 1:37.91.

Delhi’s Le’Shenae Stubblefield took first place in the girl’s high jump.

Barham seeks election to judge’s bench

Assistant District Attorney Will Barham formally announced his candidacy for District Court Judge.

A special election was called for Nov. 6 to fill the remainder of the terms of former District Judges Terry Doughty and Jimbo Stephens. Doughty was appointed by President Trump to serve as Federal District Judge for the Western District of Louisiana while Stephens was elected to serve as Appellate Court Judge for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals.

The DCS track team is going to state

A total of 16 members of the Delhi Charter School track team are headed for the state championship track meet this Friday in Baton Rouge.

DCS sends 16 track team members to state

The Delhi Charter School girls and boys track teams finished strong this season with a girls district championship, a regional 1-2A runner up finish, a boys district runner up and 16 track and field athletes heading to Baton Rouge Friday to compete in the LHSAA State Championships at Bernie Moore Stadium.

Girls qualifying for State include Ashari Jones in the shot put and discus, setting school records in both this year. 

This will be her third trip to LSU.
