Louisiana offers digital driver’s license service

Gov. John Bel Edwards announced Louisiana’s new digital driver’s license App is available to the public.  It will enable an image of a physical Louisiana license to be displayed on cell phones ensuring that Louisiana drivers who have their cell phones will always have access to their license. 

LA Wallet was created under Louisiana law of Act 625 by Baton Rouge Rep. Ted James.

Grant deadline nears

Nonprofit organizations within Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative’s service area are invited to submit applications for grants through NELPCO’s Operation Round Up. 

The deadline for the current grant cycle is 4:45 p.m. July 31.

Northeast Louisiana Power Cooperative launched Operation Round Up, which is having a positive impact on the community it serves, in January 2016. Donations collected from Cooperative members who voluntarily “round up”  their bills to include extra pennies have made it possible for grants to be awarded.

Richland jobless rate rises slightly

Unemployment for Richland Parish rose half a point during May according to the latest figures from the Louisiana Works Commission.

The parish jobless rate fell rose from 5.6 percent in April to 6.1 percent in May. It is also up from 5.9 percent a year ago.

This reflects 508 people looking for work in May, up from 468 in April and 496 a year ago.

Currently 7,856 people are working in Richland Parish, up from 7,836 in April, but fewer than the 7,890 who were employed in the parish a year ago.
