High School Sports

The Rayville High School Hornets acquitted themselves fairly well, I suppose, in the Don Redden Memorial Classic in that they were grouped in the lower half of the bracket with all the other superpower teams, Clinton Miss., (you don’t come this far unless you know you are strong) superpower 5A Zachery, North Caddo and Wossman whom I predict will win the 3A state championship this year.

The Hornets drew Clinton in the first round  and it didn’t look good as the opponent led 43-38 at half and 60-49 at the end of three.

Once again the Rayville girls’ basketball team proves that it is a force to be reckoned with in  wins over Delhi Charter, Bastrop and Mangham.

Onn a  trip to Delhi Jan. 7, the Hornets took care of the Lady Gators 50-23.  

Jalexius Kelly led the way with 17 points that included three three-pointers.  She was closely followed by Amari West with 15 points. Samiyah Smith had seven and Laliana (Lane) Wood dropped in two three-pointers while Jalacia Miller added four points and Briyonna had one.

Unlike the boys, whose game with Tensas ended in high drama, the Rayville girls basketball team took care of their game with ease after we (the wife and I) got there.

We were a little late  (toward the end of the first quarter) arriving on the scene and they needed us, leading only 28-25.
