RHS girls prove force to be reckoned with
Once again the Rayville girls’ basketball team proves that it is a force to be reckoned with in wins over Delhi Charter, Bastrop and Mangham.
Onn a trip to Delhi Jan. 7, the Hornets took care of the Lady Gators 50-23.
Jalexius Kelly led the way with 17 points that included three three-pointers. She was closely followed by Amari West with 15 points. Samiyah Smith had seven and Laliana (Lane) Wood dropped in two three-pointers while Jalacia Miller added four points and Briyonna had one.
When 4-A Bastrop came to town two days later it was a little different as the girls dominated the first quarter 11-3, only to trail 16-18 at the half.
They even trailed by four at 5:40 in the third 16-20. But they got it together and led 26-22 at the end of the third. They went on to win 36-28.
The next night, Mangham came into town for a 2-AA district contest. (No one ever said these girls aren’t in shape.) They jumped off to a 21-10 first-quarter lead and never looked back winning 68-41,
They may have had a test against Ferriday there on Jan. 14 and possibly against Madison at home Thursday the 16th. Details next week.
Come out and see these girls. They play with a lot of energy and enthusiasm that should carry them deep into the playoffs again this year.
