Lady Dragons open district play with shutout against Beekman

The Mangham Lady Dragons opened district play with a 10-0 shutout against Beekman March 11.

Anna Myers was the winning pitcher, allowing only two hits, no runs and no walks during the five innings she was on the mound.

Mangham took a 1-0 lead when Dorothy Williamson doubled in the first inning. They added another run in the second inning, the four runs in each of the next two innings.

Dorothy Williams and Abby Pruitt each had three hits, while Morgan Cruse and Camm Neathery had two each. Maddison Thomas and Olivia Dannehl each had one hit.

Hornets two games away from third straight title

Three down and two to go for a three-peat of the state championship after taking care of Mangham and Jonesboro-Hodge in typical Hornet fashion, Mangham 95-68 and he latter 87-57.

Didn’t get to see the Mangham game myself but I heard that the Dragons “froze” the ball in a delaying tactic to keep the Hornets from breaking the century mark on them. I suppose any “moral” victory is better than none.

Mangham Lady Dragons 8-0 as district play starts

Three wins over the weekend left the Mangham Lady Dragons undefeated at 8-0 in 2A softball.

A fourth game against Menard was rained out. Mangham is now ready to start district play with games against Rayville on Thursday and Ruston, OCS and Oak Grove this weekend in the Ouachita tournament.

The Lady Dragons started their streak this week with a 14-2 win over Delcambre.

The Dragons held Delcambre to two runs in the first inning and then shut them down for the rest of the game.

Hornets on their way to title

It may not be too soon of speaking of a three-peat as the Rayville High School Hornets disposed of  the visiting Hawks of St. Helena College and Career Academy 98-54.

The Hawks kept it relatively close as Devon Hopkins hit eight of nine free throws on his way to his team high 21 points.

Lady Dragons undefeated after first five games

Mangham’s Lady Dragons are 5-0 as their 2020 softball season opens.

The Lady Dragons opened their season Feb 25 with a 6-5 victory over University Academy before going on to win 8-7 over Ouachita Parish High School on Feb. 27 and then sweeping all three of their games in the Polar Bear Classic over the weekend in Monroe.

The Lady Dragons took a quick lead in the victory over University Academy when Anna Myers homered on a 2-2 count, scoring four runs to give Mangham a 4-0 lead.
