Rayville marks two wins

Delhi Charter came to town and gave the Rayville High School Hornets some much needed competition.

Usually a powder puff, the Hornets won by sixteen in Delhi earlier this year.  However, it was noted then that they were stronger this year. At one point the Hornets led only  21-18

So the Gators came into Rayville on the Jan. 28 thinking they could play with Rayville.  Sure enough the Hornets led only 36-30 at half-time.

Though the home team built a nineteen point lead with 6:07 left in the game they still couldn’t put them away.

Lady Hornets win against DCS, Mangham, Bastrop

Three up, three down for the Lady Hornets as they took care of Delhi Charter 56-35, Mangham, 63- 20 and Bastrop  54-28.

The Lady Bastrop Rams put up some resistance as they led 16-14 at the end of the first quarter.  But not to worry as the defense went to work and limited Bastrop to two points each in the second and third quarters.

Against the Rams, Jalexis Kelly led the way with 15 points which included two threes in the first quarter.

Hornets cruise to victories

Two  more up and two more down as the Rayville High School Hornets continue to roll through the district with easy wins over Vidalia (108-34) and Beekman Charter (89-29).

In the first game, the Hornets accomplished something even the state championship super teams did not manage. They scored 46 points in the first quarter.  Averaged over the game that would equal 184 points.

It was not as though Coach Damon West was trying to run up the score.  With about four minutes left in the first quarter he put in the entire second unit.

Lady Hornets still undefeated

The Rayville High School Lady Hornets remain undefeated in district play at home after disposing of the Vidalia Vikings 68-50 and the Beekman Charter Tigers 66-28.

Against the Vikings,  senior Jalexis Kelly fairly filled the basket up with three’s (five) on her way to a team high 25 points.  She scored 15 with three threes against Beekman Charter.

Zykera Webb had 12 in the first game and 11 in the second. Freshman Lane Wood had 11 against Vidalia and nine against Beekman.

Rayville Hornets dominating opponents in District 2-2A

District 2-2A is stronger this year with three teams (Delhi Charter, Madison, and Rayville) in the top ten.

Even so, the Hornets have a good chance of going undefeated in the district again.

This past week Rayville took care of Ferriday, there on a rainy night 74-56.  It was a closer game than the score indicated as it was 40-38 early in the third quarter.
