Richland Parish congressman to run for governor of Louisiana

Ralph Abraham, M.D., today announced that he will run for Governor of Louisiana.

“I’m running for Governor, and I intend to win,” he said.

Abraham will have a formal campaign launch after the first of the year.

Abraham is a conservative Republican and has served in Congress since 2015 as the U.S. Representative for Louisiana’s 5th Congressional District. It is the largest district in terms of area in the state and includes 24 parishes in North, Central and Southeast Louisiana.

Richland voters to decide fate of run off elections

Richland Parish residents will go to the polls Dec. 8 to decide four run off elections.

In the runoff for Delhi mayor, Jesse Washington will face Lynn Lewis.

In the November primary, Washington led the voting with 510 votes for 41 percent, while Lewis had 398 votes for 31 percent. Perry Smith had 26 percent with 320 votes and Todd Spinks had 25 votes for two percent.

In the run off for Delhi police chief, Nathaniel “Roy” Williams will face Michah Duchesne.

Delhi police make arrest in case of attempted murder

The Delhi Police Department, Richland Parish Sheriff Office and Madison Parish Sheriff Office arrested Demarco D. Lindsey for attempted second degree murder Nov. 27.

Lindsey was arrested in reference to his involvement in a shooting that occurred Oct. 30 in Tallulah. He was arrested without incident and transported to Richland Parish Detention Center and then transported to Madison Parish Sheriff Office pending bond. 

Traffic stop leads to arrest

A traffic stopped ended with the seizure of drugs and guns in Delhi.

Officer Marcus Tillery stopped Robert J. Stockham Jr., for improper lane usage Nov. 26.  During the process, Tillery smelled the strong scent of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle that Stockham was driving. 

Consent to search was obtained and a search revealed 16 grams of methamphetamine, 25 grams of marijuana, one set of digital scales and two stolen pistols.

Rayville man works to even odds at casinos

A Rayville man hopes to help pass legislation which will change the way casinos do business in Louisiana for the better.

“Not only does this bill give fairness and clarity to the people,” Cliff Dodge said. “It will increase the state taxes by large numbers.”

Dodge said the legislation would require casinos to display all payout percentages of each paid play and show the average daily theoretical percentage payout on all machines.
