DAR names Good Citizen award winners

The Boeuf River Chapter, NSDAR, has announced the recipients of its annual Good Citizens Award.

One senior from each school has been selected as the DAR Good Citizen for 2019.  They were selected by faculty members and classmates as a student who best demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen.  Those qualities are dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.  

Rayville Kiwanis Club Christmas parade slated

The Rayville Kiwanis Christmas Parade is set for Dec. 1 and will assemble at the First Baptist Church Parking Lot on Louisa Street.

First, second and third cash prizes will be awarded for the best top three floats entered in the parade. Marching groups, schools and churches are urged to participate in making this year’s parade one of the best ever. Aycock Award Winner Charles Darnell was selected as the Grand Marshall.

Delhi secures funding for service road project

The mayor and board of alderman  of Delhi are pleased to announce that Delhi has received $1,000,000 in Priority 5 funding for Capital Outlay for the Sapa Drive/Hydro Way Extension. 

The Town of Delhi desires to construct a new, 1.1-mile service road from the southern end of Sapa Drive/Hydro Way to near the intersection of Hwy. 17 and I-20. This extension will serve as a safety measure to reroute big truck traffic and prevent them from coming through town. Also, the addition of this extension may attract new business to the area.  

Richland Parish school scores remain steady

Richland Parish received a District Letter Grade of C with an annual District Performance Score of 65.1 when the Louisiana Department of Education released 2018 Performance Scores and Letter Grades Nov. 8.

Leading the district this year was Mangham High School with a score of 86.0/B with Mangham Elementary School close behind with a score of 83.1/B. Start Elementary School, Mangham Elementary School, and Mangham High School were recognized as Top Gain Honorees by the Louisiana Department of Education.

Professionals join forces to make parish more safe

About 250 fourth and fifth graders from across the parish participated in the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Safety Day Oct. 31

The day was sponsored by the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office and hosted by the Richland Parish LSU AgCenter Office. 

Held at the Livestock Show Grounds in Delhi, this field trip provided the students with a fun and interactive education experience about a variety of safety topics.  The students rotated through sessions covering topics such as boating, fire, chemical look-a-likes, food, water, sun, handwashing, and firearm safety.
