Christmas parades ready to roll this weekend in parish

The Mangham and Rayville Christmas parades are scheduled to take place with weekend with Rayville’s parade starting in the morning and Mangham’s in the afternoon.

The Rayville Kiwanis Christmas Parade is set for Dec. 1 and will assemble at the First Baptist Church Parking Lot on Louisa Street.

First, second and third cash prizes will be awarded for the best top three floats entered in the parade. Marching groups, schools and churches are urged to participate in making this year’s parade one of the best ever. 

Christmas play slated at Richland Arts Center

A Christmas play titled Everyone’s Christmas Story will be performed on Dec. 11-12 at the Richland Arts Center located next to Rayville High School and Rayville Junior High School. 

Auditions for casting and rehearsals are slated for 4:40 p.m. Dec. 4 and 10 at the Richland Arts Center.

 “The play will depict a factual representation of the Christmas story,” Superintendent Sheldon Jones said. “We hope that everyone who attends will enjoy the performance.” 

Stockshow pageant planned for Jan. 12

The Louisiana Stockshow Pageant will be held Jan. 12, 2019 in Delhi.

The pageant will be split up into two groups to better help with the length of the pageant for little ones and Teen and Miss contestants. 

The Louisiana Stockshow Pageant will be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 12, 2019 at the Delhi High School Auditorium, 413 Main Street, Delhi, for anyone not competing in the Outstanding Teen and Miss.

 The Outstanding Teen and Miss Contestants will participate at 6 p.m. Jan. 12 at the Delhi high School Auditorium. 

Alto congressman writes bill to help farmers

Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., R-Alto, has introduced legislation to help soybean farmers better access a program designed to offset losses caused by Chinese tariffs.

 The US Department of Agriculture announced the Market Facilitation Program earlier this year that offers payments to soybean farmers based on losses to their harvested acres incurred by Chinese tariffs.

 However, not all soybean farmers have access to this program. In Louisiana, for example, many soybean farmers have either harvested with nowhere to take their beans or been unable to harvest at all.

DAR names Good Citizen award winners

The Boeuf River Chapter, NSDAR, has announced the recipients of its annual Good Citizens Award.

One senior from each school has been selected as the DAR Good Citizen for 2019.  They were selected by faculty members and classmates as a student who best demonstrates the qualities of a good citizen.  Those qualities are dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
