Lady Raiders claim District AAA win over Cougars

The Riverfield Academy Lady Raider softball team claimed its first district AAA win last Tuesday with a convincing 20-8 victory over the Central Hinds Cougars.

Senior pitcher and second baseman M. Parker got the win on the mound for the Lady Raiders as the raiders evened their district record to 1-1.

Tied at 8-8 after three innings, the Lady Raiders’ bats exploded for 16 hits behind M. Allen, R. Gibson and T. Hixon, who each had three hits in the contest. J. Sanders and E. Barker also had multiple hits.

Next, the Lady Raiders defeated Park Place Academy 6-5.

Police Report

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of Aug. 13-19.

• LeQuise Reynolds, 19; 612 Spruce St., Rayville; disturbing the peace by fighting and disturbing the peace by fighting (second offense).

• Misty Crawford, 30; 510 Summers Road, Rayville; failure to appear on remaining after being forbidden.

• Kernesha Foster, 24; 2630 North King Ave., Lutcher; disturbing the peace general (first offense) and simple battery.

DCS robotics team speaks at LaSTEM council meeting

Students from Delhi Charter School’s junior high robotics teams demonstrated their creations at the LaSTEM advisory council meeting in Baton Rouge. 

The DCS teams, which include students Dalton Branch, Ashton Harrell, Jenny Wright, Nate Kirkland, Jacob Hosea, Payton Greer, and Cameron Fuller, were asked about their experiences winning last season’s VEX IQ robotics state championship and competing at the VEX robotics world championship last April. 

Poverty Point sets date for cooking exhibition

Poverty Point World Heritage Site will host a pre-historic cooking demonstration, featuring the earth oven method of cooking at 11 a.m. Aug. 25.

The program offers a unique look at prehistoric cooking with an earth oven, showing how the Poverty Point people used earthen cooking balls to cook their food using specially dug pit using the materials that would have been available to the local inhabitants over 3,000 years ago.
