Drugs found in traffic stop

Richland Parish Deputies conducted a traffic stop at approximately 2:50 a.m. Aug. 14 on K Pickett Road for expired license plates.

Deputies upon coming into contact with the vehicle smelled an odor associated with marijuana. Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit arrived and K-9 Vader alerted to the presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.

Deputies then conducted a search of the vehicle and found a gallon Ziploc bag of suspected marijuana, digital scales, packing material and a firearm.

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of Aug. 5-12.

• Devin Griffin, 25; 412 Dacron St., Rayville; simple battery.

• Jacoby Natt, 21; 612 Scott St., Rayville; disturbing the peace (general).

• Ja’Shawn Neal, 18; 148-B South Circle Drive, Rayville; disturbing the peace (general).

• Damarion Clark, 19; 215 Francis St., Rayville; disturbing the peace (general).

• Jarrel Gundy, 19; 106 Loy St., Rayville; disturbing the peace by fighting.

Lady Raiders post two wins in softball play

The Riverfield Academy Lady Raiders are finding their stride with two wins this week.

K. Branch pitched a one hitter against Riverdale July 31 and Word, Cumpton, Smith and Crawford all had hits for the Lady Raiders in a 12-1 win.

The same day, the Lady Raiders also played Prairie View Academy. L. Gandy scattered  four hits and M. Parker and R. Gibson, led the 10-hit Lady Raider attack with five hits between them. Parker had  four RBI’s. T. Hixon had the big blast with a two-run homerun, sending the lady Raiders to a 14-4 win.

Mangham to take part in Bayou Jamb

The Mangham Dragons will play Oak Grove at 3 p.m. Aug. 25 as part of this year’s Bayou Jamb

Bayou Jamb 2018 marks the 10 year anniversary of Bayou Jamb.

Bayou Jamb began in 2006 and is now considered Louisiana’s largest two-day high school football event in North Louisiana. Celebrating the 10 year anniversary, Bayou Jamb has expanded into a two-day event, Aug. 24-25 on the ULM campus at Malone Stadium.
