RHS players earn state honors

A number of Rayville players have been named to this year’s LSWA Class 2A All State Teams.

Mylik Wilson was named to the boy’s first team and was named outstanding player and Nashaun Ellis was named to the second team.

In addition Rayville’s Damon West was named couch of the year.

Meanwhile Rayville girl’s team members earning honorable mentions on the all state team are Tashunna Neal and T’Kira Fuller.

Delhi native earns honors at Hinds

Chelsey Ford of Delhi is among those named as Hinds Community College President’s Scholars for the Fall 2017 semester.

President’s Scholars are those with a cumulative 4.0 grade point average.

As Mississippi’s largest community college, Hinds Community College is a comprehensive institution offering quality, affordable educational opportunities with academic programs of study leading to seamless university transfer and career and technical programs teaching job-ready skills. With six locations in central Mississippi, Hinds enrolls about 12,000 students each fall semester.

Family festival set in Enterprise

Enterprise Family Festival and Fishing Tournament will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 on the grounds of the Old Enterprise High School, 4896 Hwy 124, Enterprise.

The event will feature a full day of entertainment including a petting zoo, the Jena Band of Choctaw Dancers, Scotty Temple and the Glory Bound Cloggers.

There will be more than 50 vendors with a variety of merchandise from food booths, woodworking, crafts, collectibles, antiques, boutique, children’s items, wreaths, estate items, paintings, plants and flowers, flea market items and more.

Celebrity chef teams with local 4-Hers

 Northeast Louisiana 4-H members learned culinary tricks of the trade from Chef Cory Bahr at a culinary workshop held March 17 at Bahr’s catering kitchen in Monroe.

Eighteen 4-H’ers from eight northeast Louisiana parishes donned aprons and gloves to join Bahr for a two-hour, hands-on cooking lesson.

Bahr, an award-winning chef and Monroe native, said he sponsored the workshop to inspire the next generation of hospitality professionals to eat better, live longer and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of March 18-15.

• Sacorthia Martinez, 30, 609 Scott St., Rayville; possession of Schedule I, possession of Schedule II (two counts and possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Deterrius Jackson, 23, 316 Russell St., Apt 57, Rayville; displaying a firearm and resisting by flight.

•Nathaniel Smiley, 46, 206 Quail St., Rayville;  simple criminal trespass.
