The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of Jan. 1-8.

• Daniel Brewer, 63, of 225 Crawford Road, Rayville; criminal mischief.

• Heather Mason, 25, 1471 Hwy 135, Rayville; disturbing the peace.

• Willie Kelly, 66, 813 Louisa St., Apt. #103, Rayville; no driver’s license.

• Willie Lyons, 55, 6571 Heatherwood Drive, Memphis, Tenn.; damage to property greater than $100.

Beta Sigma Phi sets gumbo sale

Beta Sigma Phi will be selling gumbo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb 2 at the Delhi Civic Center after the Stockshow Parade.

Tickets are $6 and include chicken and sausage gumbo, crackers, tea and dessert. 

All proceeds are used to fund local community service projects.

Poverty Point to host atlatl throwing contest

Poverty Point World Heritage Site is announcing an atlatl competition to be held at 10 a.m. Jan. 20. 

This friendly competition will allow the visitors the opportunity to see how the original inhabitants hunted the wild game that would become meals, clothing and other tools.

The competition will consist of a distance throw; participants will be divided into two groups with a prize awarded for each group: 12 and younger, and 13 and older.

First United Pentecostal welcomes new pastor

The First United Pentecostal Church of Rayville would like to welcome the Rev. Stacy Thomas as its new pastor. 

The Rev. Thomas and Mrs. Jana Kincaid Thomas along with their two children, 15-year-old Connor and 8-year-old Erin, were elected to replace Bishop Robert Stroud upon his retirement in November 2017. Bishop Robert Stroud and Mrs. Beth Stroud will be greatly missed.

Rev. Thomas is from the Winnsboro area and has been in the ministry for 25 years. 

He is a seasoned preacher and pastor and is very excited to welcome what God has in store for Rayville UPC.
