Political Announcement

Senator Francis C. Thompson, Delhi, has officially announced that he is seeking election to the Louisiana House of Representatives, District 19, in the October 12th primary.

Thompson, a key leader in the Legislature, is known throughout the state for his work ethic and commitment to the people of his district.  Thompson has a proven record of bringing industry to the area, helping businesses expand, and has been a key advocate for agriculture, education and rural hospitals in the state. 

Mercer tapped for board

Rev. Brian Mercer is one of four new members  elected to serve on the United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana Board of Trustees, starting their terms in August:

Mercer is senior pastor at First United Methodist Church of Minden. He graduated from Asbury Theological Seminary and has served previously at Trinity UMC, Ruston; First UMC, Denham Springs; Jefferson UMC, Baton Rouge; and Winnsboro UMC. 

He is also Chairman of the Minden Medical Center Board of Governors and a member of the Board of Governors of Lincoln General Hospital and owner of NLB Properties, LLC.

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of July 21-28.

• LeQuise Reynolds, 20; 612 Spruce St., Rayville; aggravated assault with a firearm.

• Jarrell Gundy, 20; 300 Grant Drive, Monroe; aggravated assault with a firearm.

• Samuel Sledge, 20; 214 Dacron St., Rayville; aggravated assault with a firearm.

• JaCoby Natt, 21; 612 Scott St., Rayville; simple battery.

• Marchella Mack, 26; 209 Dacron St., Rayville; disturbing the peace (general).

Gray graduates basic

U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Cherish S. Gray graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, San Antonio, Texas.

The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training also earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of July 15-21.

• Romeshia Gray, 23, 105 William Robert Drive, Rayville; no driver’s license, speeding and no child restraint.

• Jockquez Brown, 26, 130 Pine Prairie Loop, Winnsboro; simple battery and resisting arrest by flight.

• Koesha Runnels, 22, 310 Himmelberger St., Rayville; damage to property greater than $100.
