Academic Signing Day at RHS

Rayville High School held its first annual academic signing day May 1. This day is the National College Decision Day. On this day, Rayville High School recognized more than 50 eniors who have committed to a two- or four-year college or made a commitment to continue their education. Academic Signing Day became popular after former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Higher Learning initiative was formed to promote attending college and completion. Rayville High School is dedicated to preparing all students to be career and college ready.

Gentlemen’s Barber Shop opens

Gentlemen’s Barber Shop was joined by members of the Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce and other dignitaries when it held its grand opening and ribbon cutting May 2 at 608 Louisa St., Rayville. The barber shop offers hot lather, steamed towels, straight razor, men, women and kids cuts and serves Black Rifle coffee. For more information, call 318-381-3872.

DCS students present app to Congress

Delhi Charter students Garrett Gray, Zachary Reddick, and Wyatt Wiggins traveled to the nation’s capitol to present their award-winning computer app to members of Congress and the tech community at the #HouseofCode reception on May 9. 

Earlier this year, they won the Congressional App Challenge for LA District 5. 

 The Congressional App Challenge is an annual contest held by the U.S. House of Representatives. Each participating member of Congress challenges students in their district to create and submit an app to solve a district specific issue. 

Police Report

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of May 6-12.

• Shameka Haynes, 29, 909 Old Alto Road, Rayville; criminal mischief.

• One juvenile was charged with disturbing the peace by fighting.

The Rayville Police Department issued a total of 25 traffic citations this week. That number includes 17 for speeding, three for careless operation and one each for no proof of insurance, failure to secure registration, expired plates, expired tags and running a red light.

4 by Grace entertains Saints Alive

Saints Alive, a ministry of First Baptist Church, held its monthly meeting April 24. 

Saints Alive meets during the months of September through May. Anyone 50 or over is invited to join. Membership dues are $10 per person for the year. We have delicious meals, wonderful Christian entertainment/ministry and the best fellowship ever. Come for a visit, and then if you would like to join you are most welcome.

This month’s gathering was held at the Baptist Encampment on Highway 15. The meeting was opened by our president, Judy Slayter.
