Police Report

The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of May 12-19.

• Bryant Nash, 40; 504 Foster St., Rayville; loitering, disobedience to a police officer and public intimidation.

• Allen Taylor, 29; 714 Drago St., West Monroe; open container, speeding and driving under suspension.

• William Walker, 41; 783 Overland Stage Road, Rayville; driving under suspension and license plate light.

Richland students graduate from ULM

The University of Louisiana Monroe Spring 2019 Commencement was May 11 in Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Gov. John Bel Edwards was the keynote speaker.

An * denotes the student graduated Cum Laude with a cumulative GPA 3.5-3.749.

An ~ denotes they graduated with High Honors with an associate degree with cumulative GPA 3.8-4.0. 

Students from Richland Parish awarded degrees include:

Archibald: Johnathon Taylor Hoggatt, Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.

Poverty Point celebrates national trails day June 1

Join the nation’s celebration of National Trails Day  June 1 at Poverty Point World Heritage Site. 

Visitors are invited to take part in a ranger-led hike showcasing the mounds, earthworks, and nature found in the park. The event begins at 10 a.m. with an introductory video shown in the museum followed by an approximately 2-hour hike.

June 1 is also World Atlatl Day, and guests are welcome to learn about the ancient spear-throwing device known as the atlatl and take part in a spear throwing competition.

Academic signing day

Academic Signing Day at RHS

Rayville High School held its first annual academic signing day May 1. This day is the National College Decision Day. On this day, Rayville High School recognized more than 50 eniors who have committed to a two- or four-year college or made a commitment to continue their education. Academic Signing Day became popular after former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Higher Learning initiative was formed to promote attending college and completion. Rayville High School is dedicated to preparing all students to be career and college ready.

Gentlemen’s Barber Shop opens

Gentlemen’s Barber Shop was joined by members of the Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce and other dignitaries when it held its grand opening and ribbon cutting May 2 at 608 Louisa St., Rayville. The barber shop offers hot lather, steamed towels, straight razor, men, women and kids cuts and serves Black Rifle coffee. For more information, call 318-381-3872.
