Miss Stockshow pageant planned to he held Jan. 13

The 63rd annual  Northeast Louisiana Stockshow Pageant will be held Jan. 13.

The pageant will be split up into two groups to better help with the length of the pageant for the little ones and for Teen and Miss contestants, pageant director Shelley Godard said.

The Louisiana Stockshow Pageant will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 13 at the Delhi High Auditorium, 413 Main St., Delhi, for anyone not competing in the Teen Princess, Outstanding Teen and Miss divisions.

Lady Hornets take state title

The Rayville Junior High School girls’ basketball team has won it’s third state championship.

The team participated in the Louisiana State Games Middle School Basketball Tournament this past weekend December 15-16 at ULM Activity Center. The victor gives Coach Tammy Winstead three state titles and one state runner-up title in the past seven years.

During the tournament, the Lady Hornets defeated Calhoun Middle, Moss Bluff, Lee and Ruston to lock up the championship.

Wreaths Across America held

North Louisiana celebrated Wreaths Across America ceremonies at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery Saturday.

The national theme for 2017 is, “I’m an American. Yes, I am.” North Louisiana residents and their families used the event to remember fallen U.S. veterans, honor those who serve and teach children the value of freedom.

Delhi takes aim at abandoned houses, cars

The Town of Delhi will be cleaning up its streets and looking at cutting costs.

Mayor Jesse Washington said the council is working to create an ordinance which will make it easier for the town to clean up abandoned property.

“I get a lot of calls about blighted property and it’s a problem in the town of Delhi,” Washington said. “About 80 percent of the property isn’t even owned by people who live here.”

Sheriff’s Office plans meeting on active shooters

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office is offering an opportunity for all parish churches to join together in becoming proactive to prevent active shooter situations.

An informative meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 16 at Start Baptist Church. Please limit attendance to two members from each church. 

Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley and his office will provide lunch for attendees.

The purpose of the meeting is to help church members become better prepared in the event of an active shooter situation in area churches.
