Local students get look at healthcare industry

Allison Aymond, Kaitlyn Boles, Azariah Chocklin, Harrison Cooper, Elizabeth Greer and Keisha Patel spent a day at the LSU Health Shreveport- School of Medicine in Shreveport to participate in the Day with the Doctors program. 

These students were among 60 students from North Louisiana chosen to spend an entire day with medical staff and students at LSU Health Shreveport- School of Medicine.

Pesticide resistance highlighted at field day

More than 100 agricultural producers heard from LSU AgCenter experts on how to manage for herbicide, insecticide and fungicide resistance at the Northeast Louisiana Crops Forum held Feb. 8 at the Delhi Civic Center.

AgCenter entomologist Sebe Brown said farming may get harder before it gets easier.

Insecticides are not 100 percent effective, and insect resistance is a growing concern, he said.

Jury convicts Rayville man of murder

A Richland Parish jury returned a verdict of guilty as charged to second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon against Larry R. Brown Jr. on Feb. 9.

Fifth Judicial District Attorney John M. “Mack” Lancaster said sentencing has been set for April 4. Judge Glen Strong presided over the trial.

Brown, a 31-year-old Rayville resident, was charged with the Sept. 28, 2015 murder of Michael Bradley at a residence on 108 Blackmon St. in Rayville.  

Counselors play huge role in parish’s future

The Richland Parish School System is fortunate to have three exceedingly knowledgeable and conscientious high school counselors.  

Chyrisse Staten at Delhi High School, Tara Smith at Mangham High School and Judy Johnson at Rayville High School represent all that is right with counselors.  These ladies work with students, teachers and parents and guardians to ensure that each student gets the best high school foundation available.
