Volunteers could help students manage money

The United Way of Northeast Louisiana is looking for volunteers interested in helping Richland Parish high schoolers learn how to make better financial decisions and gain knowledge of budgeting, saving, and spending at the Dollars & Sense Reality Fair, sponsored by Cross Keys Bank.

Volunteering for the Dollars & Sense Reality Fair requires up to three hours of your time. Training and all information and materials needed to participate in the Dollars & Sense Reality Fair will be provided on location immediately before the simulation.

Events to honor Martin Luther King Jr.

The Martin Luther King Memorial Society will host its annual Dr. King’s Holiday activities Jan. 13-15, 2018. 

Saturday is the MLKMS’s Dress to Impress Ball. Semi-formal attire is required. Tickets are $8 for singles and $15 per couple, payable at the door. The ball will begin a 8 p.m. and end at midnight. Proceeds from the ball will go toward college scholarships for graduating seniors. 

The banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at the Rayville Civic Center. 

Stockshow parade planned in Delhi

The Northeast Louisiana Livestock Show Grand Parade will be held Feb. 2 in downtown Delhi.

Live music starts at 9 a.m. with opening ceremonies for the parade beginning at 10 a.m. Entries for the parade must be mailed, postmarked no later than Jan. 12, 2018, mailed to the Assistant Parade Director at Delhi Town Hall, P.0. Box 277, Delhi, LA 71232, or you may take them to Nancy Tate at Delhi Town Hall.

Entry forms may be picked up at Delhi Town Hall or call 878-3792 and Nancy will email you an entry form.

Rayville woman dies in accident

A single vehicle crash killed a woman from Rayville Dec. 22 in Franklin Parish.

Troopers responded to the crash around 11:35 a.m. at  LA Hwy 4 at LA Hwy 863.  The crash involved a 2000 Ford pickup, driven by Michael Dewitt Barnett, 30, of Newellton.  The Ford was eastbound on LA Hwy 4 when Barnett lost control and exited the right side of the roadway.  After exiting the roadway, the vehicle began overturning. 

Barnett was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected.  He received moderate injuries and was transported to St. Francis Medical Center for treatment.
