Hot dog lunch rescheduled

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a TRIAD fund raiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 4 at the art park on the corner of Madeline and Julia Streets in Rayville.

The event has been rescheduled due to bad weather predicted for the original date.

The fund raiser will feature hotdog plates for $5 each. Each plate will contain two hot dogs (with our without chili), chips, a drink, a cookie and ketchup, mustard, mayo and onions.

Proceeds from the event will be used to help fund this year’s Day at the Lake for seniors hosted by the sheriff’s office and Triad.

Nominations sought for SWCD supervisor

The opening of the Boeuf River Soil and Water Conservation District supervisor’s nomination period will be between April 1-30.  

For individuals interested in serving, nomination petitions can be obtained at the Boeuf River Soil and Water Conservation District office, 141 Industrial Loop, Rayville, LA 71269 (located in the Richland Parish USDA Service Center) Monday through Friday between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.  

Richland Voluntary COA welcomes new director

Editor’s Note: Mickey Fisher has been named as the new executive director of the Richland Voluntary Council on Aging. She is filling the position left vacant by former director Beth Whatley.

When I left Rayville about 40 years ago, I had no idea what adventures were ahead.

Richland Parish unemployment rate rises slightly

Richland Parish’s jobless rate climbed half a percent in January according to the latest figures from the Louisiana Workds Commission.

The unemployment rate for the parish rose from 5.3 percent in December 2017 to 5.8 percent in January. Both are significantly lower than the 7.9 percent recorded in January 2017. 

That reflect 485 people looking for work in January, up from 442 the month before but down from 657 in January 2017.

In all, 7,846 people were employed in Richland Parish in January, down 27 people from December but up 193 people from a year ago.
