The Rayville Police Department made the following arrests for the week of April 26 through May 9.

• Saporthia Ellis, 25, 211 McCaa St., Rayville; simple crimimal trespass.

• Rodrick White, 30, 316 Russell St., Apt. 51, Rayville; simple battery.

• Cora Lawson, 60 127, Loy St., Rayville; improper supervision of a minor.

• Patrick Foster, 37, 119 Draper St., Rayville; no driver’s license.

• Victoria Butler, 35, 231 Russell St., Rayville; shoplifting.

Poverty Point slates kids’ day

Visitors to Poverty Point World Heritage Site are invited to take part in Kids to Park Day May 19.

There will be a ranger-led demonstration of crafting prehistoric-styled pottery similar to the pieces which the Native Americans fashioned more than 3,500 years ago. The event will begin with the demonstration at 10:30 a.m., then visitors can create their own pottery until noon.

Senator reports progress at midpoint of session

 District 34 State Senator Francis Thompson (D-Delhi) and his colleagues in the legislature are persistent in their work as the 2018 Regular Legislative Session reaches its midpoint. 

So far, legislators have discussed bills on a wide variety of topics including education, public safety, business and industry, healthcare access and more. Included in the list of measures that are moving through the process is a bill that works to combat the proliferation of human trafficking and another to strengthen financial literacy requirements in Louisiana.

Community day slated at Starr Homeplace

Starr Homeplace Heritage and Creatively Center offers a chance to step back in time on May 12.

Starr has been given many items from closed museums and has revived old times through the blacksmith shop and the gris mill. 

The center will host its May Community Day from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 12, offering visitors a chance to tour 14 museums on the property as well as seeing blacksmith demonstrations and a working carpentry shop.

The center is located at the junction of Louisiana 133 and US 425 at 5317 Old Mer Rouge Road in Oak Ridge.
