Delhi advances, Rayville falls in state playoffs

The Delhi Bears will move on to the next round of the Louisiana high school football playoffs this week following their win over East Iberville.

The 30-12 victory boosts the Bears up to 9-3 as they prepare to face Haynesville this week. Haynesville has an undefeated season so far.

The Bears will travel to Haynesville for that game Nov. 23.

Meanwhile, the Rayville Hornets lost their playoff game against Many this past week by a score of 32-53.

The loss dropped Rayville to 6-7 on the season.

RHS student named as Heisman winner

James Learthur Powell Jr., of Rayville High School, has been named as a 2018 Wendy’s High School Heisman School winner. 

From a total applicant pool of nearly 42,000 high school scholar-athletes graduating with the class of 2019, more than 7,500 have been named School Winners in Wendy’s annual scholarship competition. 

DCS cross country team earns honors at meet

The Delhi Charter School Cross Country teams competed in the LHSAA Cross Country State Championships Nov. 12 in the absolute worst conditions possible.

 The rain, cold, and mud didn’t stop the 1000 plus participants from sludging their way through the 3.1 mile course at Northwestern State University. The DCS teams include Girls: Joniah Brown, Dora Dawson, Rebecca Hudspeth, Victoria Hudspeth, Anna Beth Raley, and Anna Claire York. the Boys team: Tyler Blake, Mason Hunt, Kolton Kelley, Caleb Humphreys and, Logan Laborde.

Football playoffs under way for Richland Parish teams

The Delhi Bears routed the North Central Hurricanes 54-0 last week in their first playoff game.

The win boosts Delhi to 8-3 on the season as they prepare to face East Iberbille Nov. 16 in the next playoff round. 

The Tigers are coming into that match at 9-4 after losing to Arcadia last week.

Meanwhile, the Rayville High School  Hornets defeated the North Caddo Rebels 26-15 last week in the first round of the State Class 2A playoffs.

The Hornets will now travel to Many for the next playoff round. The Tigers are 12-2 coming into that match.

The Delhi Charter school Cross Country Team supported the Grin and Bear It Oct. 20 and they did have to grin and bear the weather conditions. The team used the 5K to help them prepare for the LHSAA State Cross Country State Championships being held Nov. 12 at Northwestern State University. Sophomore Kolton Kelley was the overall winner of the 5K as others on the team well represented the team. Team members competing are Coach Todd Spinks, Tyler Blake, Logan LaBorde, Kolton Kelley, Mason Hunt, Caleb Humphreys, Joniah Brown, Dora Dawson, Anna Beth Raley, Tori Hudspeth, Rebecca Hudspeth and Anna Claire York.
