Lady Raiders to host MAIS South State tourney

The Riverfield Lady Raider softball season has been cruising along so far as the Lady Raiders have compiled a 19-5 record and a second place finish in District 3-AAA.

Head Coach Kyle King knows the pace will pick up with the top eight teams in the MAIS South Region set to roll into ULM (Monroe) who is hosting the tourney Sept. 21-23 for the Lady Raiders.

King stated his lady Raider team is excited to be  the host team and they look forward to playing their best softball going into this 2019 playoff season.

Dragons up record to 2-0

The Mangham Dragons upped their season record to 2-0 with a 39-12 win against St. Frederick last Friday night.

The Dragons will now host Lakeside at 7 pm. Sept. 20 in Mangham.

Meanwhile, in JV action Monday night, the JV Dragons lost 28-24 to the Franklin Parish Patriots.

Delhi defeats Merryville 23-12

The Delhi Bears defeated the Merryville Panthers, 23-12 last Friday night.

“We played a lot better in the second half,” Delhi Head Coach Storm Ridgeway said, noting that the team came out of halftime with a 6-6 tie.

Ridgeway noted that Charles Cooper was the top player for the game.

“He played a lot both ways and gave 100 percent,” Ridgeway said. Cameron Smith also played a good game with a pick six.

The win leaves the Bears at 1-0 on the season as they prepare to take on the 1-1 Delhi Charter School Gators at 7 p.m. Friday night at Delhi Charter School.

Tigers defeat Hornets 46-32

The Rayville Hornets lost last Friday’s game to the Oak Grove Tigers by a final score of 46-32.

The loss leaves the Hornets at 0-2 as they get to go on the road this week to face Union Parish at 7 p.m. Friday in Farmerville. The Farmers are 1-1 this season.

In Friday’s game, Oak Grove came out to a 14-o lead in the first quarter and widened that to 40-12 at half time.

Oak Grove failed to score the rest of the game. However, despite scoring six points in the third quarter and 14 points in the fourth, the Hornets ended the game trailing 46-32.

DCS Gators fall 34-8 to Loyola

The Delhi Charter School Gators fell 34-8 to the Loyola College Prep Flyers Friday night.

The Flyers lead 10-0 at the end of the first quarter, 17-0 at halftime and 27-0 at the end of the third quarter. The Gators got on the board with eight points with minutes left in the game, but the Flyers also scored seven points that quarter and the game ended with in a 34-8 loss for the Gators.

This week the Gators will host the Delhi Bears at 7 p.m. Friday at the Swamp.
