Riverfield Raiders up season record to 4-0

 The Riverfield Academy Raiders continued a winning streak by defeating the Hilcrest Christian Academy Cougars this past Friday night. 

As it was the week before, Riverfield proved to be the more dominant team early on and gained a 44-6 first half lead. 

By the time the second half began, the game clock had already been set in the constant run mode and time quickly ran out for the Cougars who suffered a 60-14 loss to the Raiders. 

The Raiders played with great teamwork and determination with everyone on the team getting some time on the field. 

Emergency drill

Emergency drill helps first responders learn

Richardson Medical Center, along with the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office, Rayville Police Department, Northeast La Ambulance Service, Rayville High School, Delta Community College Nursing Students,and Mike Brame with ESF8 conducted an emergency preparedness drill that involved more than 100 staff members and emergency responders from the community on Aug. 28.

Burn ban in effect for all of Richland Parish

 A burn ban has been ordered for all of Richland Parish.

  Richland Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Dawn Williams issued a cease and desist order for all private burning for Richland Parish beginning Sept. 6 and remaining in effect until it is canceled.

 Williams said this ban shall not apply to prescribed burns by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry, by those trained and certified by the Department of Agriculture and Forestry.

Straight-line winds sweep through Start

The Start area was hit by strong straight line winds causing heavy damage to area homes and trees around 5 p.m. Monday night.

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office along with other parish first responders was on scene until early Tuesday morning clearing debris and assisting Entergy with restoring power. A portion of LA 133 was closed during the night so crews could remove trees and restore down power lines.

Safety first

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson and RPD Officer Jamie Johnson take time to visit with Rayville students. Robinson said he and his staff will continue to interact with the youth and advised his officers will be checking the schools regularly to make sure that everything is running smoothly. ‘Starting with children at a young age is very important when it comes to learning the difference between right and wrong,’ he said. ‘It’s never too early to help children build the traits to becoming positive leaders within the community.
