Morris elected to FSA committee

Jeffery Todd Morris of Rayville has been elected to represent Local Administrative Area  2 during the recent USDA Farm Service Agency county committee election.

“County Committee members are a critical component of the day-to-day operations of FSA,” County Executive Director Kenneth Cook III said.  “They help deliver programs at the county level and work to serve the needs of local producers. All recently elected county committee members will take office in January 2020 and will be joining the existing committee.”

Deputies make drug bust

Drugs and other paraphernalia were seized when the Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant Nov. 20 at the residence of Leo Butler in Delhi ending a three-month long narcotic investigation.  Butler was charged with four counts of distribution of crack cocaine, one count of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, two counts of distribution of methamphetamine, one count of possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of possession of a firearm in the presence of CDS. Butler was booked into the Richland Parish Detention Center with a bond set at $187,500.

Veteran’s cemetery earns engineering award

The Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery has been awarded an engineering excellence award by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Louisiana.

The project was one of 13 statewide honored by the group in 2019. 

The awards celebrate firm achievement, teamwork and client partnership.   All of the projects recognized are tangible examples of the essential role engineering plays in the everyday lives of Louisiana citizens.  

Traffic stop leads deputies to arrest murder suspect

A routine traffic stop led Richland Parish deputies to the arrest of a suspect in the alleged murder of a Start resident.

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a 2010 mustang for a traffic violation at 8:55 a.m. Nov. 25 on US 425 near Mangham.  A short pursuit ensued with the car stopping near the Parish Farm Road and the occupants of the car fleeing into nearby woods. 

The sheriff’s office and the Louisiana State Police set up a perimeter and RPSO K-9 Cyrus began tracking the fleeing suspect.  

Authorities make armed robbery arrest

Local authorities recently aided the West Monroe Police Department in apprehending a fugitive.

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office was contacted on Nov. 18 by the West Monroe Police Department requesting assistance in serving arrest warrants on 18-year-old Glynntavis Bland on charges of armed robbery and attempted second degree murder.   

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Rayville Police Department located Bland at a residence in Rayville.
