RPSO seeking suspect from armed robbery

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call of an armed robbery which had just occurred at 8:26 p.m. Jan. 16 at the S-Mart #4 (Bee Bayou), located at 3730 Hwy. 80 Rayville.  

The RPSO investigation revealed a black male, armed with a semi-automatic pistol entered the store demanding money from the cashier.  The cashier gave the gunman an undetermined amount of money.  After doing so the gunman fled the store.  No vehicle description is available at this time.  The cashier was not harmed during the robbery. 

CASA program now seeking out local volunteers

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Northeast Louisiana is holding a new volunteer training class beginning Jan. 30 in Richland Parish to ready volunteers to serve local children currently in need of an advocate.

CASA Volunteer training consists of five, three- and one-half hour classes spread out over five weeks. The orientation class for the training will be held from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Jan. 30.

Flooding closes Russell Sage road

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries has closed the main road at Russell Sage Wildlife Management Area two miles south of Russell Sage Road exit to Ruby Road.

Increasing water levels in Bayou Lafourche Canal have created backwater flooding on the road. Once the water recedes and any repairs are made, the road will be reopened.

Russell Sage WMA consists of 38,213 acres in Ouachita Parish and is located about seven miles east of Monroe and 10 miles west of Rayville.

Two jailed on murder charges

Two men have been arrested following a homicide last week in Rayville.

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at 8:03 a.m. Jan. 6 at 310 Earline St., Rayville. 

After discovering the body of Charley Island Jr., 65, deceased from gunshot wounds, deputies opened a homicide investigation into Island’s death.

The investigation led to the arrest of Johnathan Guice, 19, of Rayville, on a charge of second degree murder on Jan. 9. 

Juvenile arrested after guns taken from car

A 17-year-old male from Bastrop was arrested in connection with a vehicle burglary in Rayville.

Rayville Police Chief Willie Robinson advised his office received a burglary complaint that a suspect entered a vehicle and removed two firearms and a cell phone. During the course of the investigation, it was revealed that the vehicle was unlocked at the time

“However, I, Officer Jasmine Williams and Lieutenant Czyz Williams were able to develop a suspect,” Robinson said. “The investigation led us to Bastrop. I contacted Morehouse Parish Deputy Lt. Tyree Rowden for assistance.”
