PETA honors memory of cattle with billboard

In honor of the 10 cows who died—and the many others who were injured—when a truck carrying them overturned on Interstate 20 in Richland Parish last November, PETA has placed a billboard near the crash site showing a cow’s face next to the words “I’m ME, Not MEAT. See the Individual. Go Vegan.”

The billboard went up on Jan. 10 and is located 0.7 miles west of Exit 138 on I-20.

Pedestrian killed near Holly Ridge

A female who was walking on US Hwy 80 was killed Monday night after being struck by a vehicle.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Jan. 29, Louisiana State Police Troop F responded to a crash on US Hwy 80 near Holly Ridge.  The preliminary investigation revealed a 2007 Chevrolet Impala, driven by 40-year-old Derrice Kelly of Rayville, was traveling east on US Hwy 80 when her vehicle struck a pedestrian that was walking in the travel lane of the roadway.

Rayville tops best teams list

Close readers will remember that last year I said the Hornets were the best Rayville basketball team I had lever seen except for the team I would see next year.

If I have ever made an understatement, this was it.  This year, the Hornets have come out blazing even beyond my own expectations.

They have won the three biggest tournaments in Northeast Louisiana, the inaugural Big E Classic, the West Monroe Invitational’ and Ouachita’s Don Redding Classic.  For good measure, they won the Parkview Tournament.

Rayville girls remain on a roll in basketball

After another tough pre-district schedule that left the Lady Hornets around five-hundred in the won-loss column, the ladies have hit their stride in district play, going undefeated in their first five district games.

They are trying to duplicate last season’s undefeated district play.

There are only two home games left to catch these girls playing, Ferriday Feb. 2 and Delhi Charter Feb. 9.

They have been winning these games in a comfortable fashion, though not as comfortable as the last one with General Trass of Lake Providence, 67-11.
