Advocates needed for local children

CASA of Northeast Louisiana is holding a new volunteer training class beginning March 8 to ready volunteers to serve local children currently in need of an advocate.

CASA volunteer training consists of five three-hour classes spread out over five weeks. The orientation class for the training will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 8.

No previous experience is required to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate. By volunteering for just 8-10 hours per month, Advocates can make a lifelong difference for a local child.

Lady Hornets end season in quarter finals

Who was it that said “All good things must come to an end?”

Even knowing that, it makes it no easier when the end does come. Right now the Lady Hornets are heartsick that they did not win three more games that would have meant a state championship.  Now they get little consolation that dozens of teams would by very happy to have made it to the quarter finals in the state tournament.

Hornets still on track for state

There was not much difference between the first stage of the state playoffs and the last action in the regular season.

Nor would one expect otherwise as the number 1 seed would play the number 32 seed, Beekman Charter.

It wasn’t a pretty sight as the Hornets triumphed 102-25 and that with the “mercy” clock running and the substitutes doing most of the scoring in the second half. It may have been Keshie Natt’s second three that put the Hornets over the century mark. He wound up with two threes and a free throw for seven points.
