Mangham mayor passes away Monday night

Mangham Mayor Johnny Lee Natt passed away Monday night.

Mangham Police Chief Perry Fleming announced the mayor’s death Tuesday morning with a post on the police department’s Facebook page.

“The Mangham Police Department and the Town of Mangham are saddened by the loss of our Mayor Johnny Natt,” Fleming said. “The mayor was not only a friend to us all he was a husband, father, and grandfather. Please keep his family in your prayers.”

In addition to his work with the Town of Mangham, Natt was known for his legacy of coaching in Richland Parish.

Mangham Dragons head to football semi-finals

The Mangham Dragons will go into the semifinal round of the state 2A football playoffs undefeated.

The Dragons advanced in the playoffs last Thursday by defeating the Port Allen Pelicans 35-19 in the quarterfinals.

The outcome was never in doubt as the Dragons took a 21-0 lead in the second quarter and held it throughout the game. As always, Caleb Pleasant, Tae Gayden and Cam Wilmore led the Dragon offence, rolling up seven touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Dragon defense limited the Pelicans to 19 points.

Voters elect Letlow, pass Delhi schools bond issue

Richland Parish voters helped elect Luke Letlow as their new congressman and passed a school bond issue in Delhi during Saturday’s election.

In the race for U.S. Representative, 5th Congressional District, Letlow defeated Lance Harris by 62 percent with 49,182 votes to Harris’ 30,124. In Richland Parish, Letlow won by 75.2 percent with 3,022 votes to Harris’ 995.

Feral hog sign up period now open for Richland

Boeuf River Soil & Water Conservation District in Cooperation with USDA-Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Wildlife Services is currently undergoing a sign up period for the Aerial Gunning of Feral Hogs Project in Richland Parish.

Feral Swine cause major damage to property, agriculture (crops and livestock), ecosystems and cultural and historic resources. This invasive species costs the United States and estimated $1.5 billion each year in damages and control costs.
