William Hiram Stodghill

William Hiram (Billy) Stodghill of Rayville, passed from this life on November 25, 2022, at his residence.

He was born on September 10, 1955, in Monroe, to Jesse and Lillian Stodghill of Rayville.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Rayville Masonic Cemetery with Rev. Aaron Carpenter officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. 

Visitation was at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

All through high school Billy was in Boy Scouts and obtained the highest award as an Eagle Scout.

 He graduated from Riverfield Academy in Rayville and went on to receive his bachelor of science degree in construction management from Northeast Louisiana University in 1981. He obtained a second bachelor’s degree in accounting from Northeast Louisiana University. Finally, he obtained a final bachelor’s degree as a civil engineer from Louisiana Tech University in Ruston.

Billy retired from the State of Mississippi in December 2019, where he worked for numerous years in the environmental division. Prior to that, he worked at the General Motors Plant in Monroe until its closing.

He was an avid reader of all types of literature. He loved football, baseball and golf. He also had a love for old TV sitcoms. 

Billy had a gentle nature as evidenced by his numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jesse and Lillian Stodghill.

Billy was married to Linda Hollis Stodghill for 13 years; had two stepsons, Rodney Burchell (Miracel) and Mark Burchell (Tu) both of Hamburg, AR; nine step-grandchildren and four step great grandchildren; his cousin, Jack Green and family; and a host of family and friends.
