Verlon E. Lawrence

Graveside services for Verlon E. Lawrence, 76, of Columbia, will be held at noon on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, Rayville, with Bro. Jeff “Preacher” Eagles officiating under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville.

Mr. Verlon was born December 17, 1946, in Monroe and passed away Saturday, August 5, 2023, in Columbia.

Mr. Verlon retired as a sergeant first class from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service. 

Serving during the Vietnam War and Iraq War. He was the founder of the Combat Vet Motorcycle Association 6-5 NELA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lois Lawrence and Bernice Parker;  four sisters; and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Venita Lawrence of West Monroe; children, Matthew Wright of Savannah, GA, William Bradley Lawrence of Columbia, Paulette Jill Phillips of Delhi and Paulina Collins of Cabot, AR; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; siblings, Joel Parker and wife, Shirley, Terry Parker and wife, Sue, Van Parker, Renea May and husband, Alvin, and Mark Parker and wife, Krissy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
