Nell L. Garner

Funeral services for Nell L Garner, 84, of Start, were held Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Crew Lake United Methodist Church, Start, LA with Bro. Marshall Sevier officiating. 

Burial followed in the Start Cemetery, Start, under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home, Rayville.

Mrs. Garner was born October 28, 1933, in Start and passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018, in West Monroe. She loved her family and was loved in returned, it showed by all the cards, letters, and pictures she treasured and saved. Mrs. Garner was a retired school teacher with a master degree plus 45 years. She also was a member of the Crew Lake United Methodist Church. She loved to read, to garden, and loved all flowers.

Mrs. Nell is preceded in death by her parents, Alma and Clint Word; aunt, Etta Lee Alsbrooks; brothers, Rev. Scott Word, George Word, Billy Word, Lee Word, and Eddie Word Sr.; and her sister, Lena Ross. 

Survivors include her beloved husband of 44 years, Walter Garner of Start; children, Kenny Laird, Angie Garner Pickens, and Lori Garner; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Pallbearers were Eddie Word Jr., Aaron Word, George Word Jr., Gray Martin, Danny Dubard and Jarrod Durflinger. 

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Word, George Word Sr., Lynn Word, Marvin Ross, Gregg Pickens and Robert S. Ross Sr.
