Calvin Lee Whittington Jr.

alvin Lee Whittington Jr., 92, of Delhi, were held in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Delhi, on Monday, March 20, 2023,  with Bro. Ken Evans and Bro. Steve Hillman officiating.

Visitation was held on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Cox Funeral Home.

Burial was in the Pine Grove Cemetery in Jena under the direction of Cox Funeral Home of Delhi.

Pallbearers in  Delhi were Glenn Welch Jr., Stephen Welch, Frank Maxwell IV, Trey Welch, Logan Welch and Trent Welch.

Pallbearers in Jena were Darrel Randall, Daniel Roark, Preston Roark and Paul Kimball.

Calvin was born on January 22, 1931, in Jena and went to be with Jesus on Friday, March 17, 2023, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe.

“Whit” or “Happy” as he was lovingly called by family and friends graduated from NLU  where he played a trumpet in the “Sound of Today” band.  He was in the ROTC where he was discharged at first lieutenant.

He retired as a medical technologist after 40 years service at the Delhi Hospital.

Calvin loved to play the guitar.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Calvin Whittington and Texanna Joy Whittington; and a grandson, John Vaughan Jr.

Surviving him are his beloved wife, Betty Whittington of Delhi; three daughters, Peggy Vaughan of Jena and Janet Welch and husband, Glenn, and Bonnie Maxwell and husband, Frank III, all of Delhi; six grandchildren Jennifer Vaughan, Glenn Welch Jr. (Crystal), Stephen Welch (Heather), Whitley Lewis (Alex), Frank Maxwell IV and Annabelle Mize (Alex); and  numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
