Richard Beryl Thompson

Sherman- Funeral services for Richard (Rich) Beryl Thompson will be held at noon Tuesday, May 8 at West Hill Cemetery.  

Basil McClure will officiate, and military honors will be conducted by the US Marine Corp.   Mr. Thompson, 77, passed away Friday, April 27 at Wilson N. Jones Regional Medical Center.

Rich was born September 26, 1940 in Longview, Texas to the late Harry C. and Dorothy M. (Courter) Thompson.  He graduated from high school in Delhi, Louisiana, in 1958, where he was an all-state football player.  In August 1958, Richard joined the US Marine Corp and proudly served as a helicopter mechanic until August 1962.  Following his time in the Marines, Mr. Thompson moved to Vallejo, California where he raised his family.  They moved to Arlington, Texas in 1972, where he was a longtime resident.  After moving and living in Granbury for a time, Rich moved to Sherman, TX in 2015 after his wife of 31 years, Barbara, passed away. He was a longtime and active member of the Marine Corp League in Granbury and here in Grayson County.  

Mr. Thompson is survived by his son, Richard M. Thompson and wife Amy Thompson of Sherman; daughter, Rhonda Thompson of Vallejo, CA; niece, Nancy Thompson of Spring, TX; and six grandchildren, Kaley Thompson, Colton Thompson, Simona R Dodson, Gary J. Maglaya, Jr., Mathew A. Delaca & Gianna R. Torres, and two great grand-children, Violet L. Dodson & Gary J. Maglaya III.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifford E. Thompson; daughter, Elizabeth Thompson; beloved grandmother, Alta Courter; and grandfather, Claude Courter.
