TA Chiefs win 1A track championship

The Tensas Academy boys did an outstanding job at the meet last week where several team members placed first in the respective events.  

Several personal bests were recorded during the meet.  Members of the boys team claimed nine first place finishes to score 71 points and capture the championship.

The quartet of Morgan Williams, Savino Nuccio, Sam Paxton and Chris Davis posted a time of 46.08 in the 400 meter relay, 1:38.43 in the 800 meter relay and 4:03.59 in the 1600 meter relay.

Chris Davis won the long jump with 19’52”, the triple jump with 40’9” and the 100 meter run with 11:34.

Morgan Williams took the 300 meter hurdles with 45.22 and the 110 hurdles with 17.66.

Sam Paxton won the shot with a throw of 36’ 4 1/2”.

Scoring with top five finishes were Morgan Williams with second place in the High Jump at 5’6”; Sam Paxton taking second place in discus with a distance of 97’3”;, Jed Jinks with third place in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:52.55 and Savino Nuccio with fourth place in the 200 meter run with a time of 25.55.

Competing in the South State girls’ events were Kathryn McMahon who qualified for the state meet in the triple jump and Mary Briley Rushing. Rushing competed in the 400 meter run.

The top four team members in each event will advance to the state track meet.
