Pastor elected to lead heritage association

The Rev. Bill Nash of Mangham was recently re-elected president of Heritage Family Association of Fort Polk for his third term.

The Association is comprised of descendants of original landowners of the Ft Polk Range. In 1941 as the US Army took possession of the area, the some 700 families had to relocate.

The area consists of land which runs 15 miles north to south and some 23 miles east to west in Vernon Parish. It contains 23 cemeteries of the native families, some graves going back to about 1850.

From Peason to Fullerton, the military maintains not only the cemeteries, but various points of interest. One area is called Nash town.

Rev. Nash, a historian and author, is pastor of Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church of Mangham.
