Saints Alive celebrate Mardi Gras

Saints Alive, a ministry of First Baptist Church, held its monthly meeting Jan. 28.

Saints Alive meets during the months of September through May. Anyone 50 or older is invited to join. Membership dues are $10 per person for the year. We have delicious meals, wonderful Christian entertainment/ministry and the best fellowship ever. Come for a visit, and then if you would like to join you are most welcome.

The meeting was opened by President Judy Slayter. The tables were colorfully decorated in Mardi Gras style by Louise Cater and Edwina Greer. It was great to meet with our fellow Saints and we welcomed the following visitors: Don and Elaine Smith, Karen Gilley and Brenda Shires.

Prayer requests were received and Chaplain Ralph Odom led in prayer. The visitors and birthday honorees for January were recognized. Everyone joined to sing Happy Birthday to them.

The menu was soup and cornbread and, of course, some amazing desserts. Reatagae Wooden made the taco soup and Charlotte McKnight the chicken noodle soup. Both were delicious.

The servers included Lilwin Norman, Annie Ruth Frith, Charlotte McKnight, Angie Collins and Wayne and Brenda McManus.

The entertainment for the evening was provided by Pastor Mike and Beverly Jackson. The Jacksons are Southern Gospel singers who have been performing together for 45 years. Mike Jackson is currently serving as pastor of First Assembly of God.

Our next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Feb. 25. The menu will be potluck. We invite others to join us for a time of fellowship, good eating and wonderful ministry.
