Boeuf River, NSDAR, meets

Boeuf River, NSDAR, met Monday, Jan. 21 in the home of Gayle Waller with Jodie Waller as co-hostess.

Nine members present enjoyed delicious refreshments prior to the business meeting. This is the program where we report on all the projects of the year. One of the special ones was the Wreaths Across America. Veterans and patriotism are the special focus of this group. We all enjoy privileges in this country thanks to all who serve in the military.

Regent  Angela Hales called the group to order and led the DAR ritual. Committees gave information to send to headquarters.

Other items presented were the report from the nominating committee, attention to the Good Citizen Tea, the LSDAR state meeting March 14-16 in Lafayette, items sent to Brendan Cooper and voting to donate surplus money to the veteran’s cemetery for landscaping on the grounds.

All issues covered, the meeting was adjourned.

The Boeuf River Chapter, NSDAR, met Monday, Feb. 11, 2019, in the home of Angela Hales with Dora Heath as co-hostess.

This is always a very special program to honor the Good Citizens winners of the essay contest. Each one writes their own paper and are judged on character, service, dependability, leadership and patriotism.

Jamie Harrell played the Star-Spangled Banner which is an inspiring hymn. This program also included a skit by Jay and Evie Strickland, Angela’s grandchildren. They were adorable.

Guests also included Judge Lay Hamilton and Judge Will Barham. We were pleased to have Judge Barham read the preamble for us. Annalyse Russell led the Pledge of Allegiance. She also read her essay which won in the parish and took second place in the district. Kelly Patel and her counselor were also present as well as their mothers.

Patriotism is so important and we should all promote it. This program is special and highlights the young people in our school throughout the parish.

A business session followed the program. New officers, meeting dates and delegates were presented by the chairmen.

The March meeting will be in the Richland Parish library.

The meeting was adjourned.

Charlotte E Sims is reporter for the Bouef River, NSDAR.
