Holly Ridge Happenings

Stop and think!

When a flashlight grows dim or quits working, do you just throw it away? Of course not. You change the batteries. When a person messes up or finds themselves in a dark place, do you cast them aside? Of course not. You help the, you help them change their batteries. Some need AA’s -- attention and affection. Some need AAA’s -- attention, affection and acceptance. Some need C --compassion. Some need D -- direction. And if they still don’t seem to shine, simply sit with them quietly and share your light.

Well, God sent his death angel twice this wee to take two of our prominent men home. Our heartfelt sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Ralph Powell who passed away on Friday. His son’s, Bennie Powell from Dallas and David and Christian Powell from Las Vegas, were here for his services. May God bless each one who knew him. I won't get to put his age in the Beacon anymore! He was 94 years old.

The other was our oldest living church member, Mr. Woodroe Jackson, who was 94 years old. A man of God who knew his Bible from front to back. He will surely be missed. May God bless each one touched by his homegoing. Thanks to Bro. Leo Lyles for taking care of him these last few years. May God bless him for this.

Here on Friday was Randy Whitstine from Baton Rouge. He was here to visit with Mrs. Betty Jo Whitstine (his aunt), her son, Danny, and Stan.

Monty Hogg from West Monroe and Bastrop came by also on Friday. We had a good visit.

Garland and Betty Knight Jones of Monroe were here also. Just passing by and turned around to eat some ice cream, yum, yum.

My “Cuz” Shannon Maxwell was here early Saturday. Now we did visit and remembered when. Long time back! And I go a long ways.

Happy Birthday this week to Brian McCartney, Carly Peirce, Billy Clay, Reid Davis and Holley Clarie Johnson on Aug. 26,  Charles Murry Clack on Aug. 27, Nancy Absher, Daryl Caston, Timothy Thomas and Rayn Calloway on Aug. 29, Gary Freeland II on Aug. 30 and Ellie Jo Barker Ogden on Aug. 31. May each of these celebrate many more happy ones.

Anniversary wishes to Allen and Diane Nettles on Aug. 28, Frankie and Elizabeth Faust on Aug. 29 and Deryl and Deloris Caston on Aug. 30. I wish for them many more years of happiness together!

Have a great week! Thanks to the ones who have given to the cemeteries fund. They have had to mow more than usual due to the rain.

Remember: Many will miss Heaven by 18 inches, the distance from their head to their heart. They know about CHRIST, but do NOT KNOW  HIM. You can be religious but LOST. You can have the Bible in your head, but NOT HAVE CHRIST IN YOUR HEART.
