Holly Ridge Happenings

Jesus performed many miracles.

At a wedding, He made the world’s best tasting wine out of hand-washing water. He removed a terrible skin disease called leprosy, causing the healed to have fresh new skin. A man who was mute, He caused to talk. Dead people came back to life at His very word. The elements, they obeyed Him as He walked on water and the weather did too. “Peace! Be still. Peace, Be Still.”  He commanded a storm and it did. But of all His recorded miracles which were performed so we would believe Him, His most amazing feat was this: He has made His home in You. Yes, you, believer. As you read this, he resides in your very being, never to leave again. What an amazing feat.

I enjoyed, as always, Jerry and Pat Goynes and her daughter-in-law, Sherry Jesselink, on Tuesday. We visited for quite a  while.

The family of the late Jay and Hattie Mae Swain had a reunion on Saturday, June 26, at the home of Lloyd Swain in Oak Ridge. Jeff and Zack Swain did the honors of frying fish, hushpuppies and taters. Others added to this with their favorite casserole. This gathering was enjoyed by some 48 hungry people. A great time was had by all.

Thanks to Bro. Paul Wells for his donating a truckload of dirt to Bethel Church to fill the ruts behind the church. And thanks to John Thompson for spreading it. Now maybe it will be better mowing. Thanks to you both! God Bless you for these act’s of love.

Thursday after lunch this guy walked in the store and asked if I was Shirley. I said “Yes, I am”. Well he was Kirby Money, lived on the Jager’s lane for years. I’ve not seen Kirby since I graduated from H.R.H.S. He had been to Houston, Texas, to visit his brother, James. They flew out to California for a visit with their sister, Sandra M. Puebelea. He decided on his way home to Forest, Miss., to come this way and I’m glad he did. Always love to see old school friends.

Kellie Ryan from Cantan, Texas, came over on Saturday and took her dad, Bennie Wynn, to Old Hewbrew Baptist Church in New Helbron, Miss., for a church fish fry on the  4th of July. Everyone enjoyed his being there and Kellie enjoyed it as well.

Bobbie Donald Fallin from West Monroe called to tell me what a wonderful 94th birthday she had on July 1. Her son, Donnie, and Betty Donald from West Monroe carried her to the seafood place, the Mohawk Tavern, for lunch. Bobbie now lives in the Landmark Assisted Living in West Monroe. She is a very sweet friend of mine.

Happy Birthday this week to Kelsey Toney on July 8, Kay Silk on July 9, Bubba McLemore, Jennifer Franks and Bubba Dunn on July 11, Regina A Lipscomb, Melvin Herman, Austin Gibson, Alvin Stowe and Morgan Chowns on July 13, Destiny Dickson and Courtney Parker on July 14.

Anniversary wishes to Luck and Betty Hamaker (58) years on July 12. May they share many more happy years together!

Our heartfelt sympathy, love and prayers go out to the family and friends of Bro. Terry Traxler who took his heavenly flight on June 26. May God Bless each one who knew him and fill the void left by his homecoming.

Have a great week! Thanks to each and everyone who remembered your upkeep for Bethel and McKnight Cemetery. It is very much appreciated.

Remember: We often hear “Life is short, better enjoy it.” How about, “eternity is long, better prepare for it!”
