Holly Ridge Happenings

A man was asked to paint a boat.

He brought his paint and brushes and began to paint the boat a bright red as the owner had asked him. While painting, he noticed a small hole in the hull and quietly repaired it. When he finished painting, he received his money and left.

The next day, the owner of the boat came to the painter and presented him with a nice check, much larger than the payment for painting.

The painter said “You’ve already paid me for painting the boat, sir.”

“But this is not for the paint job. It’s for repairing the hole in the boat.”

“Ah it was such a small service certainly not worth paying me such a high amount for something so insignificant.”

“My dear friend, you do not understand. Let me tell you what happened. When I asked you to paint the boat, I forgot to mention the hole. When the boat dried, my  kids took the boat and went on a fishing trip. The did not know that their was a hole. I was not home at the time. When I returned and noticed they had taken the boat, I was desperate because I remembered the boat had a hole. Imagine my relief and joy when I saw them returning from fishing. Then I examined the boat and found that you had repaired the hole. You see, now, what you did? You saved the life of my children! I do not have enough money to pay your ‘small good deed’.”

No matter who, when or how, continue to help, sustain, wipe tears, listen attentively and carefully repair all “leaks” you find. You never know when one is in need of us or when God holds a pleasant surprise for us to be helpful and important to someone.

Along the way, you may have repaired numerous boat holes for several people without realizing how many lives you have saved.

Steve and Janice Lofton have returned from a week’s vacation. Started out in Little Rock where their children, Josh and Jamie Lofton, joined them. They visited Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone Park and many other places of interest before returning home. Probably good to be back on “The Ridge.”

Our pastor, Bro Marty, and Cathy Parker have also been vacationing out to New Mexico and Arizona with their children, grandchildren and great grands. Yes spoiling the little ones more. Ha! It was good to have them home also.

Stopping by the store one day this week was Bro. Terry Ganey. He had carried fresh vegetables from his garden to a friend in Bastrop. Was good to see him. Friday brought Edwina Greer and her Sister, Rita LaForge from West Monroe over my way. Had a long visit and surely did enjoy it.

Happy Birthday this week to Kim Mills, Linda Duck, Leslie Siscoe, Billy Self and Areyanna Hobbs on June 17, Amanda Sternitkey on June 18, my granddaughter-in-law, Emily Thompson, on June 21, and Amy Ingram and Alayor Pyles on June 22. May each of these celebrate many many more happy ones.

Anniversary wishes go out to John and Martha Jordan (66) years on June 17 and Buddy and June McCartney on June 20. May these share many more happy years together.

Thanks to each one who have given to the cemetery fund. For you who haven’t just remember us.

Have a great week! Please call and share.

Remember: No matter how far you’ve walked away from God, the return trip is one one step.
