Riverfield begins season at Jamb at the Grove

It’s back to school time and there has been much activity on the Riverfield campus as students have returned after summer break.

For the football team, some of that summer break time was spent in weight and agility training, preparing for the upcoming season.

The team got a chance to test those skills this past Saturday as they participated in the third annual Jamb at the Grove at ULM’s Malone Stadium in Monroe. Jamb at the Grove is a season opening jamboree in which several area MAIS teams participate by playing two 20-minute contests.

The Raider’s first contest pitted htem against the Clinton Christian Warriors. The game ended in a 6-6 tie. In their second game of the evening, the Raiders took on the Glenbrook Apatches. That game was a 12-0 victory for Riverfield.

In the two contests, Nicholas Heath, Garrett Brakefield and Hudson Brakefield all saw running action from the backfield.

Garrett Brakefield, Braxton Shelton and Ty Skeldon all three had a chance to test their quarterback skills during the contests.

In the first game, the Raiders scored on a six-yard run by Nicholas Heath. In the second game, the Raiders scored twice with the pass. Garrett Brakefield connected with Bailyn Sorenson on a 41-yard touchdown pass while Braxton Shelton completed to Hayden Geisbrect for an 11-yard gain.

The Raiders seem confident as they begin their regular season tomorrow night at Central Hinds in Raymond, Miss.

Hey, Raider fans, it’s time for another great Riverfield Raider gridiron season. See ya tomorrow night at Central Hinds. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
