Mangham Dragons still undefeated after game three

The Mangham Dragons upped their season record to 3-0 Friday night with a 49-35 win over the Lakeside Warriors.

The first quarter was largely a defensive battle as the Dragons shut down every attempt the Lakeside Warriors made to get into the endzone.

The Dragons continued to keep the Warriors out of the end zone in the second quarter, shutting them down on downs and taking possession of the ball with 8:11 left in the first half. Kaleb Pleasant then carried the ball to the 34 yard line. Pleasant continued moving the ball in a series of drives which ended with the ball just inside the dragon five yard line. Joe Williams capped the drive with a touchdown run and Kolby Poindexter booted in the PAT to give the Dragons at 7-0 lead.

The Dragon defense continued to hold and the Warriors were forced to punt after a series of setbacks. The Dragons mounted their own drive moving the ball forward until Pleasant capped the sixth play of the drive by hitting J.T. Smith with a 60-yard touchdown pass. Poindexter’s extra point kick left Mangham with a 14-0 lead with 3:11 on the clock in the first half.

The Warriors got on the board following a series of passes with a minute left in the half. The extra point was good and the Dragons led 14-7.

After the next kickoff, Cam Wilmore ran the ball the entire length of the field to widen the lead for Mangham. Poindexter then ran in the extra point for a 22-7 Dragon lead with 49 seconds left on the clock.

The Dragons then started the second half with a 90-yard kickoff return by J.T. Smith for another touchdown. Poindexter followed up with another PAT as the Dragons moved their lead to 29-7.

After another series of Warrior plays ended in a punt, the Dragons again took possession of the ball with a first and 10 on the 17-yard line. A handoff up the middle let Smith move the ball 13 yards for a first down. Smith continued to move the ball for two more plays.  Pleasant then hit Smith with a 30-yard pass for another first dow before Wilmore took a handoff into the endzone followed by another PAT from Poindexter for a 35-7 Dragon lead with a little more than seven minutes left in the third quarter.

The Warriors made a comeback, capping a six-play drive with touchdown run and PAT to bring the score to 35-14 in favor of Mangham.

Smith answered with a touchdown run of his own and the Dragons went back on top 42-14 at the end of the third quarter. Another Dragon touchdown put the score at 49-14.

The Warriors continued their comeback, getting the score up to 49-35 by the end of the fourth quarter, but the Dragons took home the win.

The win Friday night leaves the Dragon at 3-0 on the season as they prepare to host Delhi Charter this Friday night at 7 p.m. in Mangham. DCS is currently 1-1, following a loss to Delhi.
