Two-vehicle crash leads to fatality

Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F began investigating a two-vehicle fatality crash which claimed the life of a Winnsboro man just after 7:30 a.m. March 4 on LA Hwy 17, just south of Epps. 

The initial investigation by State Police revealed the crash occurred as a 2019 Dodge Charger, driven by 24-year-old Ryan Lee, was traveling southbound on LA Hwy 17.  For reasons still under investigation, the Charger crossed the center line into the path of a northbound 2017 Kenworth commercial truck.  This action resulted in the collision between the two vehicles.

Lancaster to retire as Fifth District Attorney

Fifth District Attorney John M. (Mack) Lancaster announced that he will not seek re-election this year and that he intends to retire early from office on March 31.

Lancaster served as assistant district attorney in West Carroll Parish for over 27 years and has served as district attorney for Franklin, Richland and West Carroll Parishes since March 2011.

In announcing his retirement,· Lancaster said that serving the public as district attorney and assistant district attorney has been a rewarding and fulfilling experience. 

Home invasion ends in attempted murder

The Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office and Rayville Police Department responded to a 9-1-1 call Feb. 26 at 5 Cherry St., Rayville, in reference to an assault.

Upon arrival, Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley said deputies learned William “Chucky” Johnson, 52, had allegedly kicked in the door of his ex-wife’s home while armed with a knife.  Once inside, Johnson is said to have attacked his ex-wife with the knife.  Another occupant of the house intervened and was stabbed several times, requiring medical attention at a local hospital.

Delhi recognizes medical professionals, Black history

The Town of Delhi Special Events Committee would like to thank everyone who came out and supported the Black History celebration banquet and the presentation of the 2020 Royal Court. 

This year’s theme was “Pioneers in Medicine” honoring African American’s in the medical profession from Delhi and surrounding areas.  

Separate traffic stops lead to series of arrests

Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley stated three separate traffic stops resulted in arrests over the past week.

 The first traffic stop occurred at 8 p.m. Feb. 22 on Wheeler Bend Road when deputies stopped Dustin Lee McClanahan, 40, and upon conducting a search of his vehicle found 13 baggies containing methamphetamines along with four hydrocodone pills.  

 McClanahan was transported to the Richland Parish Detention Center and booked for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamines and possession of hydrocodone. Bond was set at $30,000.
