FCCS opens free meals site

Family Community Christian School is providing children dependent upon the school system for hot meals with breakfast and lunch while area public schools are closed.

FCCS will provide the free meals from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. for breakfast-only pickups and from 10:30 a.m. to to 12:30 p.m. for breakfast and lunch combination pickups. Meals will be served Monday through Friday. 

Meals should be ordered in advance and picked up at the cafeteria door in the rear of the school. The school is located at 2023 Hwy 15, south of Baskin.

Chamber delays date of fourth annual banquet

The Richland Parish Chamber of Commerce will postpone its fourth annual meeting and banquet due to growing health concerns.

 “Let me be very clear, we have no reason to believe nor speculate that anyone in Richland Parish is currently infected with the Chinese Coronavirus,” Chamber president Scott Franklin said. “However, we feel it is not prudent to host a 400-person indoor meeting where the average age of patron is 60 years old.”

Day at the Lake moved to the fall

This year’s Day at the Lake has been cancelled.

Richland Parish Sheriff Gary Gilley has announced due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus spreading worldwide and with cases  in Louisiana, the annual Richland Parish Sheriff’s Office Triad, Day At The Lake which is held every May, has been cancelled. 

DCS fifth grader in running for LA student of the year

Sierra Lester of Delhi Charter School is a regional finalist for fifth grade student of the year competition held by the Louisiana Department of Education.

The LDE has released the names of 21 students selected as regional finalists in the state’s annual Students of the Year competition. The 21 students selected include one fifth, eigiht and twleftth grader from each of the state’s seven regions and represent public and non-public elementary, middle and high schools across Louisiana.
