Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Aug. 22 at Poplar Cemetery, with Dr. Eddie Wren officiating.

Born on July 24, 1958, Michael was a quiet steward of Richland Parish’s memory. His lifelong love of newspapers and local history led him to build a remarkable personal archive, an ever-growing trove of clippings, photographs, and documents that preserved the stories of his community with care and reverence.

Michael worked faithfully as a custodian at Richland Medical Clinic, where he was known for his steady presence, gentle spirit, and quiet dedication. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, June.

He is survived by two sisters, Sylvia Jones and Doll Higgins, and by his children: Barbara McFarland and Dequarius “Red” Martin, whose names he spoke with pride and affection.

Michael’s legacy lives on in the pages he preserved and the lives he touched. His absence will be deeply felt, but his stories— and the quiet dignity with which he lived—will endure.
