Interment will be in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Holley Funeral Home.

Mr. Fred was born July 19, 1939, in Lake Providence and passed away Thursday, June 12, 2025, in Rayville after a lengthy illness.

Fred Murphy Sr. will be remembered for his service in the community as owner of Murph’s Grocery for 40 years. His customers were like family to him. Fred was a veteran with the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ora Bell Acreman; father, Fredrick Berziel Murphy; sister, Shirley Herring; granddaughter, Crystal Ivy; great-great-grandson, Austin Patterson; and son-inlaw (Beverly’s husband), Arvin Dale Lord.

Survivors include his children: Kenneth Murphy, Edna Lusk and husband, Steve, Beverly Lord, Fred Murphy Jr. and wife, Michelle, and Roger Murphy; 14 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Dorothy Bryant and Sadie Quimby.

Pallbearers will be Fred Murphy Jr., Roger Murphy, Kenneth Murphy, Steve Lusk, Travis Munholland and Brandon Murphy.

Honorary pallbearers are Timmy Jinks, Jacob Droesser and Alan Dreamer.

Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2025, at Brown-Holley Funeral Chapel, Rayville.
